The body of a young man was recovered this morning (April 18) from the Beruwala Fisheries Port premises, following an incident where he reportedly drowned. The individual, identified as a resident of Waskaduwa, Kalutara, had jumped into the sea yesterday (April 17) afternoon during a special police search operation targeting drug trafficking within the port. Police reports indicate he was on a multi-day fishing vessel when he saw officers and attempted to escape by swimming towards another boat, subsequently drowning. Authorities stated the deceased was allegedly involved in supplying drugs to the port and was also a drug addict. His body was found approximately 200 meters from the location where he went missing. Further investigations into the incident are currently underway by Beruwala Police and Kalutara Crime Scene Investigation officers.
