Wimal S.K. Liyanagama has been appointed as the new Director General of Customs, with the Cabinet of Ministers approving his transition into the role. The appointment fills the vacancy left by S.P. Arukkgoda, whose term as Director General concluded today. Liyanagama, a Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, previously held the position of Director General at the Department of Management Services. The proposal for his appointment was submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, acting as the Minister of Finance.

The appointment of Wimal S.K. Liyanagama as the new Director General of Customs is now effective from May 6, 2026. This follows the conclusion of the term of the previous Director General, S.P. Arukgoda, on May 5, 2026.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the appointment of Wimal S.K. Liyanagama as the new Director General of Sri Lanka Customs. Liyanagama, a Special Grade officer of the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, currently serves as the Director General of the Department of Management Services. The proposal was presented by the President in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, with the appointment taking effect as the term of the current Director General, Seevali P. Arukgoda, concludes.
