Welikada Police OIC Arrested for Alleged Bribe Scheme Involving 19 Chinese Passports

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Welikada Police was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court on May 28th, where Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered him to be remanded until June 9th. The arrest by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) is linked to allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs. 3 Lakhs per person to release the passports of 19 Chinese nationals, who were arrested in the Rajagiriya area for illegal stay and online scams, without presenting them to court on the due date.

The Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court that a woman is involved in the alleged bribe scheme concerning the passports of 19 Chinese nationals, assisting the Welikada Police OIC in facilitating their illegal return. The OIC, arrested on May 27th, was produced in court on May 28th and remanded until June 9th. The allegations centre on demanding a bribe of Rs. 3 Lakhs per person to release the passports without presenting the individuals to court.
