Water Supply Suspended in Colombo, Gampaha Districts Due to Quality Concerns

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has temporarily suspended water supply to several areas across the Colombo and Gampaha districts. This action was taken due to an urgent situation affecting water quality near the Kelani River intake point, impacting operations at the Ambathale and Kelani South Water Treatment Plants. The suspension, which began on the evening of May 9th, was scheduled to last until the afternoon of May 10th, affecting areas including Kaduwela and its surroundings. The NWSDB, with assistance from the Tri-Forces, has since resolved the risk to water quality, with laboratory tests confirming the water meets required standards for resumption of distribution. The Board has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to consumers.
