Final rites for veteran journalist Bhakti Dharmapriya Mendis will be held on Monday. Mendis, who passed away at 47 after a road accident, was the son of senior journalist Sugathapala Mendis. He was married to Dr. Imesha Dharmasena, a senior lecturer at Sri Jayawardenepura University's Department of Mass Communication, and was the father of Dimath Thejaka Mendis. His media career began in 2000 as a founding editorial member of the 'Lakbima' daily newspaper, and he later worked for 'Dinamina' and 'Rivira' newspapers. Born in Galle, reports indicate he remained in critical condition for twenty-five days following the accident.

Veteran journalist Bhakti Dharmapriya Mendis has passed away at the age of 47, after succumbing to serious injuries sustained in a road accident. He had been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital. Mendis began his journalism career in 2000 as a founding editorial member of the Lakbima daily newspaper, later contributing to Dinamina and Rivira newspapers. Born in Galle, he was an alumnus of Richmond College, Galle. His remains will lie at his residence in Mahagedara Watta, Boossa, Galle, from April 4 afternoon, with the final rites scheduled for Monday, April 6, at 5:00 PM at the Dadalla Public Cemetery.
