Ven. Gnathilaka Thero Appointed Temporary Atamasthana Chief Amidst Legal Proceedings

The Malwatta Maha Viharaya has announced the temporary appointment of Venerable Etalwatteve Gnathilaka Thero as the chief incumbent overseeing the duties of Anuradhapura's Atamasthana (Eight Sacred Places). This interim measure is in place pending the conclusion of ongoing legal proceedings against the current chief incumbent, Venerable Pallégame Hemarathana Thero. The decision was made by the Atamasthana Committee, with Venerable Gnathilaka Thero also serving as the Chief Sanghanayaka of the North Central Province and Chief Incumbent of Ruwanweli Seya. The announcement was issued by the Malwatta Maha Viharaya's Karaka Sangha Sabha, which reportedly conducted an inquiry into the allegations.
