Vajira Abeywardena Warns Sri Lanka Risks Becoming a Colony Without Ranil's Expertise

United National Party (UNP) Chairman, Vajira Abeywardena, has cautioned that Sri Lanka is at risk of becoming a colony if the nation fails to leverage President Ranil Wickremesinghe's extensive political, economic, and international experience. Speaking at a media briefing held at the UNP district office in Uluwitike, Galle, Abeywardena emphasized that the current need is for an opposition focused on rebuilding the country, rather than merely protesting. He highlighted the importance of utilizing Wickremesinghe's expertise in economic-centric state governance to strengthen the national economy. Abeywardena also referenced the depreciation of the Sri Lankan Rupee, noting that the US Dollar, which was approximately LKR 290 when Wickremesinghe previously took charge, has now risen to around LKR 320.
