Upcountry Railway Line Repairs Nearing Completion, Services Set to Resume

Significant progress is being made on restoring the upcountry railway line damaged by Cyclone 'Sitrang'. Repairs on the Nawalapitiya-Gampola section are nearing completion, with 30 out of approximately 36-37 damaged locations already restored by the Railway Department. Project Engineer Chamila Herath anticipates the Nawalapitiya-Gampola section repairs will conclude by November. This development leads MP Thushara Jayasinghe to predict the Nawalapitiya-Kandy train service will resume before the end of the year. Furthermore, MP Manjula Surawiraarachchi announced that the Nawalapitiya-Badulla service is scheduled to restart from December, following repairs to landslide-affected areas.
