Unclaimed Vehicle Plates Deadline Looms as DMT Resumes Printing

The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has issued a critical notice urging vehicle owners to collect nearly 100,000 uncollected number plates printed in 2023 and 2024. A strict deadline of June 30, 2026, has been set for collection from DMT offices, including Narahenpita and district branches. This initiative coincides with the department's announcement that vehicle number plate printing operations are expected to officially resume on or before June 10, following the completion of a new procurement process. Furthermore, the DMT is developing plans to introduce personalized number plates bearing custom names once its existing system is updated, a project discussed with the Parliamentary Committee on Public Funds.
