Ukrainian National Remanded Following Mount Lavinia Assault and Disorderly Conduct

A 37-year-old Ukrainian national, who has been residing in Ratmalana for 18 years on a spouse visa, was remanded until April 22 by court order following an incident in Mount Lavinia. The individual was arrested on April 12, around 11:50 p.m., in front of the "Little Star" restaurant, after allegedly behaving in a disorderly manner and assaulting a Sri Lankan woman and other individuals. Police officers from Mount Lavinia, who intervened to control the situation, were also reportedly assaulted by the woman, who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol. She faces charges including assault, obstructing police duty, and theft. Bystander video footage reportedly captured the aggressive behavior, which lasted for nearly 30 minutes.
