The Nuwara Eliya district has recently experienced two separate lorry accidents, both resulting in injuries and significant damage. In one incident, a Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council tipper truck, reportedly traveling at high speed, experienced sudden brake failure on the Nuwara Eliya-Udupussellawa main road near the Forest Conservation Office. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a nearby house, causing severe damage to both the house and the truck. The driver and two workers traveling in the tipper sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital.
Separately, a firewood lorry transporting timber from Wellawaya to Hatton Abosley Estate was involved in another accident on the Hatton-Nuwara Eliya main road near the Glasgow Estate. This lorry also reportedly suffered a sudden brake malfunction, causing it to veer off the road and plunge approximately 100 feet into a tea estate. The driver and his assistant were injured in this incident. They were initially taken to Lindula Hospital before being transferred to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
