Two Farmers Killed by Lightning Strike in Vijithapura

Two farmers tragically lost their lives after being struck by lightning in the Vijithapura area near Kalawewa on Monday, April 27, 2026. The incident occurred during heavy evening rainfall as the men were engaged in agricultural activities in their farmlands. The victims have been identified as Jemaldean Badurdeen, 50, and Jackson Senarathna, 49, both residents of Vijithapura. Initial investigations indicate they were working in their paddy fields in Kanakkanmadugama and Puliyankulama when the lightning struck. The Ipalogama Police have launched a full inquiry into the incident, with one victim's body reportedly at his residence and the other at the Kalawawa Hospital.
