Authorities in Hatton have arrested two suspects in connection with the theft of approximately 1,090 metres of telephone cable, valued significantly, from the Norwood, Maskeliya, and Castle Reigh areas. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects operated at night, cutting cables and burning them to extract copper for sale. In a separate operation recently, police arrested suspects linked to telephone cable thefts from transmission towers in Ragama and Moratuwa, recovering cables worth an estimated Rs. 922,750. This latter operation also resulted in the seizure of 17.7 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ICE).
