Travel Ban Issued on Wimal Weerawansa's Brother Over Vehicle Misuse Probe

Sarath Weerawansa, brother of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, has been issued an overseas travel ban by the Fort Magistrate's Court on June 10, 2026. The order stems from an investigation into the alleged misuse of 40 government vehicles, which reportedly resulted in an estimated loss of Rs. 9 million to the state. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) requested the ban to facilitate ongoing investigations, naming Weerawansa as a suspect in the case.
