Transport Ministry Secretary Resigns Following Supreme Court Ruling

Professor Kapila Perera has resigned from his post as the Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development. Sources indicate his decision follows a Supreme Court ruling last week that found he had violated the fundamental rights of W.S. Sathyananda, an official appointed as Additional Secretary. Sathyananda was reportedly informed his services were not required on his first day of duty. Perera has officially notified the Ministry of Public Administration and informed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of his resignation. He is expected to return to his university service.
