Train Derails Near Chilaw, Disrupting Puttalam Line Services

A train derailed near the Halawatha (Chilaw) railway station on June 1, 2026, causing significant disruptions to services on the Puttalam railway line. The incident has led to train services from Colombo Fort being temporarily limited to Madampella. Movement towards Colombo from Halawatha and towards Puttalam has also been halted. Efforts are currently underway to remove the derailed train and restore normal operations, according to railway authorities.
