Sri Lanka has recently recorded multiple tragic drowning incidents involving young people. In Mawanella, a 15-year-old boy drowned while bathing in the Ma Oya river with another child. Separately, in Kosgama, two youths aged 16 and 17 lost their lives after drowning in a canal in Thawalagodawatte, with one incident reportedly occurring on the victim's birthday. Another 16-year-old student also drowned while bathing with friends in the Katuwila Wewa in Sevanagala. Police in all affected areas are conducting further investigations into these unfortunate events.

New reports identify the two brothers who drowned in the Kekirawa quarry as Dharmasami Sri Kannan (39) and Dharmasami Prabaharan (41), both residents of Haputale.

New reports specify the Victoria Reservoir incident occurred on May 17th in the Bambaragala area of the Teldeniya police division. It is further clarified that all four youths initially went underwater, with one being rescued by locals and admitted to Teldeniya Hospital. The bodies of the three deceased youths were recovered through a joint effort by the Kandy Police Life Saving Unit, officers from the Maberiyathenna Air Force camp, and local residents.

In Kekirawa, Samagigama, two brothers aged 39 and 41, residents of Haputale, drowned on May 17th while swimming in an abandoned quarry. They were part of a group of five who had arrived in the area for school construction work. Three members of the group returned safely after swimming, but the brothers remained and subsequently drowned.
