Tilvin Silva: Provincial Council Elections Unlikely This Year, States Only NPP Government Will Rule

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva has stated that Provincial Council elections are unlikely to be held this year (2026). Speaking in Jaffna after opening a new coordination office, Silva also denied any Indian pressure to expedite the polls, citing a good understanding between the governments of both countries. He further declared that only a National People's Power (NPP) government will lead the country forward to rebuild it, implying no other administrations will emerge. Silva indicated that the possibility of holding the elections can only be assessed next year.
