In the North Central Province, police arrested three individuals in Medawachchiya with a pair of tusks reportedly valued at nearly LKR 20 million, using undercover officers to intercept them as they arrived in a three-wheeler. Meanwhile, in the Uva Province, police apprehended three other suspects in the Hali-Ela area with two elephant tusks, seizing their car as well. The suspects in the Hali-Ela incident were aged between 21 and 31.

Further details have emerged regarding incidents involving elephant tusks. On June 9th, one suspect was apprehended in Welikanda, Polonnaruwa, with a pair of elephant tusks and a locally manufactured gun, concealed in a fertilizer bag. In a separate incident on the same day, three suspects were arrested in Hali Ela, Badulla, with two suspected 'Gajamuthu' (ivory fragments) weighing 5,900 mg. These three suspects have been remanded until June 19th.
