Three Chinese nationals were arrested by Customs officers at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to smuggle a large consignment of mobile phones and batteries into the country. The suspects, who arrived from Shanghai, China, were apprehended on Tuesday (19) as they attempted to exit through the "Green Channel" without declaring the items. Customs officials seized mobile phones valued at approximately Rs. 5,140,000 and 140 batteries, with some phones reportedly found hidden among toffees and chocolates. Officials suspect the smuggled electronics were intended for cybercrime activities.
