Teacher Dies After Sea Current Sweeps Group at Kirinda Beach; Lifeguards Rescue Students

A group of teachers and students from a school in Badalkumbura were swimming at Kirinda Beach on Monday (25) when they were caught in a strong sea current. Police lifeguards on duty swiftly intervened, rescuing several individuals from the dangerous waves. Despite the rescue efforts, a 56-year-old male teacher from Badalkumbura was later pronounced dead at Kirinda Hospital after being admitted in critical condition. A schoolgirl was also reported to be in critical condition following the incident, which occurred while the group was participating in a co-curricular program.
