The victims, named as Danushka Udayanga (29) from Ikiriwewa and Heshan Dasun, a high school student from Anuradhapura, reportedly went for a bath in the canal after attending tuition classes in the afternoon. Their bodies were later discovered in the canal, with reports indicating they were swept away by the current and found downstream by other bathers. Thambuttegama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident, and the bodies have been transferred to the Thambuttegama Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Dhanushka Udayanga (29), a tuition teacher from Bediwewa, Thambuttegama, and Munasinghe Arachchige Heshan Dasun (19), a school student from Thibiriyakadawala, Anuradhapura. Police stated that the two went for a bath in the Nallachchiya Wewa irrigation canal yesterday (April 18) after tuition classes. Their bodies were discovered yesterday afternoon, with reports indicating they were swept approximately 300 meters downstream.
