Teacher and Student Drown in Thambuttegama Canal

Two individuals, identified as a school teacher and a student, tragically drowned yesterday (18th) in an irrigation canal originating from the Nallachchiya Reservoir in Thambuttegama. The victims, named as Danushka Udayanga (29) from Ikiriwewa and Heshan Dasun, a high school student from Anuradhapura, reportedly went for a bath in the canal after attending tuition classes in the afternoon. Their bodies were later discovered in the canal, with reports indicating they were swept away by the current and found downstream by other bathers. Thambuttegama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident, and the bodies have been transferred to the Thambuttegama Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
