Tamil Nadu CM Appeals to Delhi Over Six Fishermen Arrested by Sri Lanka

Six Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu's Mandapam district have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy, reportedly for crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). In response, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has written to India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, requesting diplomatic intervention for the early release and safe repatriation of the fishermen and their seized boat. Chief Minister Vijay expressed concern over the continuing arrests and the distress among coastal communities. This incident highlights a broader issue, as reports indicate that 54 Indian fishermen and 264 fishing boats are currently held by Sri Lankan authorities.
