Suspect Remanded Over Damage to Newly Renovated Pettah Central Bus Stand

Police have arrested and remanded a 33-year-old resident of Kelaniya in connection with property damage at the Pettah Central Bus Stand. The suspect was presented before the Colombo Chief Magistrate and remanded until April 17. The incident involved damage to facilities at the bus stand, which was renovated and reopened for public use on April 8, 2026. Following a complaint lodged by the bus stand's Welfare Division, the suspect was apprehended on April 11, 2026, with some of the stolen property recovered. The Sri Lanka Air Force is expected to provide an assessment report on the extent of the damage.
