Police Deny Colombo Bomb Plot, Confirm Arrest of Kanjipani Imran Associate

It has been further clarified that the initial media reports incorrectly linking the arrest to a bomb plot emerged after media outlets had inquired from the Police Media Division about an arrest, suggesting the bomb plot connection was a misinterpretation or premature conclusion by the media rather than a police confirmation of such a plot.

Police Media Spokesman ASP F. U. Wootler's denial of a Colombo bomb plot and confirmation of an arrest came in response to media reports that had incorrectly linked the arrest of an associate of Kanjipani Imran to such a conspiracy. The police clarified that while an arrest was made, it was not connected to any bomb plot. The suspect is confirmed to be a resident of Modara, Colombo.

Police Media Spokesman ASP F. U. Wootler has categorically denied reports circulating on social media and certain websites regarding a bomb plot in Colombo and other crowded areas, stating such claims are completely false and no such incident has been reported. However, ASP Wootler confirmed the arrest of a 38-year-old resident of Colombo 15 by the Counter-Terrorism and Investigation Division (CTID). The arrest took place on Monday (April 20) during a raid in the Ja-Ela, Kala Road area. The suspect is identified as a key associate of organized crime leader Kanjipani Imran, who is believed to be currently overseas. Investigations are ongoing.
