A suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 61-year-old gem businessman from Kahawatta, whose body was discovered in a pit. The victim, identified as Walpita Gamage Anura, reportedly went missing on March 28 after leaving to purchase a gem, with a complaint lodged on March 29. His body was subsequently found on March 30 in a desolate pit within a forested area of Kahawathukanda, Kahawatta. The individual taken into custody by Delwala Police was apprehended while hiding in a forested area and is a resident of Kahawatta Kanda. Investigations by multiple special police teams, including the use of a police dog, led to the discovery of the body and the subsequent arrest.
