The Supreme Court has upheld a Colombo Commercial High Court ruling ordering former minister Wimal Weerawansa to pay Rs. 1 million in compensation to Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva. The case stemmed from allegations that Weerawansa violated the Intellectual Property Act by publishing his book, “Naththa Wenuwata Aththa” (“Truth Instead of Lies”). The book reportedly included JVP's political ideology and official party documents, infringing upon Silva's intellectual property rights. Weerawansa's appeal against the initial judgment was dismissed in full by the Supreme Court. Additionally, the Supreme Court issued an injunction preventing Weerawansa from further printing, distributing, or selling the book and engaging in related infringing activities.
