Supreme Court Rules Ex-IGP Tennakoon and Two Senior Officers Violated Fundamental Rights

The Supreme Court has ruled that former Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, along with former Deputy Inspector General Palitha Siriwardena and Chief Inspector Induka Silva, violated the fundamental rights of former CID DIG Ravi Seneviratne and former CID Director Shani Abeysekara. The ruling was made in connection with a Fundamental Rights petition filed by Seneviratne and Abeysekara concerning investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks. The court found that the actions of Tennakoon, Siriwardena, and Silva were carried out with a political agenda during the previous presidential election period. Consequently, the court ordered Palitha Siriwardena to pay Rs. 50,000 each to Seneviratne and Abeysekara, and Induka Silva to pay Rs. 10,000 each.
