Substandard Coal Shipment Arrives for Norochcholai Power Plant, Lawyers Warn

The Free Lawyers' Organization has alerted authorities to a shipment of coal intended for the Norochcholai power plant, describing its quality as "completely rejectable". According to a Load Port Report (LPR) dated April 30, 2026, issued by Bureau Veritas Solutions South Africa, the cargo of 59,766 metric tons reportedly has an ash content of 16.8%. The organization has forwarded copies of this report to directors of the Lanka Coal Company and the Energy Ministry Secretary. They are strongly advising against unloading the vessel, identified as MV JOSCO YONGZHOU, without a thorough investigation into the coal's suitability.
