Sri Lanka's National Inflation Rate Climbs to 4.7% in April 2026

Sri Lanka's overall inflation rate, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) on a year-on-year basis, increased to 4.7% in April 2026. This marks a notable rise from the 2.4% recorded in March 2026, according to data released by the Department of Census and Statistics. The report indicates that food inflation rose to 1.1% in April from 0.7% in March. Concurrently, non-food inflation saw a substantial increase, climbing to 7.8% in April from 3.8% in the preceding month. The significant surge in the non-food category was identified as a primary factor contributing to the overall inflation increase.
