Sri Lanka's Main Reservoirs at 45% Capacity; Eastern Districts Face Low Levels

Sri Lanka's main reservoirs are currently holding approximately 45% of their total water capacity, according to the Irrigation Department. However, water levels in reservoirs across the Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Mannar districts have dropped significantly, standing at around 20-30%. Despite these regional shortages, officials have stated that the existing water reserves are sufficient to meet the needs of the ongoing Yala cultivation season. The impact of El Niño has also been noted in several districts, prompting the distribution of drinking water to affected families.
