Sri Lanka's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita has surpassed US$5,000 for the first time in the nation's history, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL). The CBSL's Annual Economic Review for 2025 indicates the figure reached US$5,003 in that year. This represents a substantial increase from US$4,546 recorded in 2024, marking an annual rise of US$457. The previous highest GDP per capita was US$4,372 in 2018. Deputy Minister of Tourism, Professor Rohana Ranasinghe, also announced this milestone in parliament, highlighting the economic progress.
