Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister to Address UN General Assembly, Holds Talks with UN Chief

Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath will represent Sri Lanka at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He is scheduled to deliver the country's national address on September 28, having departed for New York on September 26. This year's representation differs from the previous session, where President Anura Kumara Dissanayake attended as Head of State. On the sidelines of the assembly, Minister Herath met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Their discussions centered on Sri Lanka's ongoing economic recovery and reform program, reconciliation efforts, and contributions to UN peacekeeping operations. They also exchanged views on international financial architecture reforms beneficial to developing countries.
