Sri Lanka's EVs to Feature Green Number Plates, Legal Validity Confirmed

The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has announced that all electric vehicles (EVs) will be issued number plates with a distinctive green background. Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, retired Air Vice Marshal Thushara Indunil Fernando, has confirmed that these green plates are legally valid and their use will not result in any legal complications for vehicle owners. The department will continue to issue white and yellow number plates for other vehicle categories as usual. New number plates have been prepared for a total of 88,740 registered vehicles.
