The final report of the Census of Population and Housing 2024 was officially submitted to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat today. K. M. D. S. D. Karunarathne, the Director General of the Department of Census and Statistics, presented the findings of what marks the 15th such national census conducted in Sri Lanka. A notable feature of this census was its pioneering use of tablet computers and smart mobile phones for nationwide data collection, a first in the country's history. Approximately 15,000 digital devices were deployed to gather information, significantly expediting the process and aiming to reduce data collection errors. This digital approach represents a major step forward in modernizing Sri Lanka's statistical methodologies.
