Sri Lankan Schools Begin New Year Holiday, Reopening April 20

Government and government-approved schools across Sri Lanka concluded the second phase of their first term today, April 10, 2026. This marks the start of a holiday period in observance of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. The Ministry of Education announced that schools will remain closed until April 19. Classes are scheduled to resume on Monday, April 20, 2026. For Sinhala and Tamil medium schools, this will mark the commencement of the second school term, while Muslim schools will begin the fourth phase of their first term.
