Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga has achieved a series of significant international victories and career milestones in recent months. He secured gold at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet in the Czech Republic with a throw of 86.57 metres, becoming the first Sri Lankan to win the prestigious event. This victory follows a world-leading throw of 92.62 metres at the Rome Diamond League and a silver medal at the Rabat Diamond League (85.97m). Tharanga's consistent elite performances have seen him climb the world rankings, reaching 3rd place globally, after previously holding 5th and 7th positions. His impressive form, including a gold medal at the Kip Keino Classic with a meet record of 89.28m, has established him as a leading contender on the international stage.
