Sri Lankan Expressways Generate Record Revenue During New Year Travel

The record revenue generation period for Sri Lankan expressways has been explicitly confirmed as April 10 to April 13, 2026. The total revenue of Rs. 196,119,425 from 520,403 vehicles over these four days was further confirmed by the Expressway Operations, Maintenance and Management Division and its Deputy Director General, R. A. D. Kahatapitiya.

Sri Lankan expressways have now generated a record revenue of Rs. 196,119,425 from 520,403 vehicles over a four-day period during the New Year travel, according to the Road Development Authority. This extends the previously reported period of April 10-12 to include an additional day. April 10 recorded the highest daily revenue and vehicle count within this four-day period, with Rs. 59,815,450 from 161,847 vehicles. The RDA also advised motorists to report any vehicle emergencies on expressways to the 1969 hotline.

Sri Lankan expressways generated a record revenue of Rs. 163,291,065 during the New Year travel period from April 10 to 12, 2026. A total of 434,338 vehicles utilized the expressways over these three days. The Ministry of Highways and the Director General of the Road Development Authority, Anuradha Hettiarachchi, confirmed these figures. On April 10, revenue reached Rs. 59,815,450 from 161,847 vehicles; April 11 saw Rs. 58,208,695 from 153,807 vehicles; and April 12 recorded Rs. 45,266,920 from 118,684 vehicles.
