Sri Lankan eateries will implement price increases for several popular food items starting midnight today, May 7th. The All Ceylon Restaurant Owners' Association announced that prices for rice, biryani, and nasi goreng will increase by Rs. 25. This decision comes in response to a recent surge in the cost of Laughs gas cylinders, which has become unaffordable for approximately 25% to 30% of restaurants that rely on it. Consequently, these establishments will also raise the prices of plain tea by Rs. 5, milk tea by Rs. 10, and short eats by Rs. 5.
