Sri Lanka Vehicle Prices Plummet Amidst Oversupply and Falling Demand

Vehicle prices in Sri Lanka have seen a substantial decline, with the Lanka Vehicle Importers Association reporting drops ranging from LKR 3 lakhs to LKR 10 lakhs. According to Association Chairman Indika Sampath Merinchige, this price reduction is attributed to an oversupply in the market, stemming from previous large import volumes aimed at filling a gap created by earlier restrictions. Falling consumer demand has further contributed to the situation, leading popular models like the Honda Vessal to decrease in price by approximately LKR 10 lakhs, while others like the Wagon R and Yaris have fallen by LKR 3-5 lakhs. This market condition is seen as a result of the interplay between supply and demand dynamics.
