Sri Lanka has launched two key digital initiatives this week to enhance transparency and efficiency across public services and trade. On March 31, the Centralized Electronic System for the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities was officially inaugurated, marking the complete digitalization of asset and liability reporting. This system, spearheaded by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), with its Director General High Court Judge Ranga Dissanayake and Chairman Retired Judge Neil Iddawala present, aims to identify false declarations and unusual asset accumulation. Separately, Sri Lanka Customs announced the implementation of an online cargo clearance system for containers moving from Colombo Port to three external examination yards, set to commence this Friday (April 3). Director General of Customs Seevali Arukgoda stated that this new procedure will ensure maximum transparency and accountability in the container release process, which was previously handled manually. Both initiatives underscore a national push towards digital transformation for improved governance and trade facilitation.
