Sri Lanka Tourism Surpasses 1.46 Million Arrivals by Mid-August 2026

Sri Lanka has recorded a total of 1,468,980 tourist arrivals from January 1 to August 24, 2026, according to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA). This milestone follows the country surpassing one million arrivals before the end of May 2026, marking the second consecutive year for this achievement. India continues to be the leading source market, contributing the highest number of visitors cumulatively and in specific months. The United Kingdom and China are also among the top countries sending tourists to Sri Lanka. Earlier in the year, arrivals in March and April saw a year-on-year decline, which industry observers attributed partly to the impact of the Middle East conflict.
