Sri Lanka to Launch Banana Stem Textile Factory in Embilipitiya

A new factory is set to be established in the Embilipitiya area to produce finished garments from banana stems. Announced by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne, the initiative aims to boost the economy of local banana cultivators. The project will utilize a modern technical process where banana stems are transformed into yarn, dyed, and then manufactured into complete clothing items. This venture is being developed with technical assistance from the Chinese government, and investors have already shown significant interest. A special discussion regarding the project was recently held at the Embilipitiya District Secretariat.
