Sri Lanka to Celebrate Hajj Festival on May 28

TLDR
  • Hajj festival in Sri Lanka on May 28.

  • Announced by Colombo Grand Mosque.

  • Based on Dhul Hijjah moon sighting.

Muslims across Sri Lanka are set to celebrate the Hajj festival, also known as Eid al-Adha, on Thursday, May 28. The Colombo Grand Mosque officially announced the date, which is determined by the Islamic lunar calendar. The crescent moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah was not sighted in Sri Lanka on May 17, leading to May 19 being declared the first day of the new month. Consequently, the Hajj festival, falling on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, will be observed on May 28, with Arafat Day preceding it on May 27.
