The Excise Department has confirmed that all liquor outlets across Sri Lanka will remain closed on April 13 and 14 for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Exemptions apply only to tourist board-approved hotels holding an R.B.07 or special boutique villa license, which are permitted to serve liquor exclusively to foreign tourists staying at their establishments. The department has warned that license holders violating this directive will face strict action.

The Excise Department has announced a nationwide suspension of liquor sales for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year. All licensed establishments, including liquor shops, taverns, hotels, restaurants, and karaoke bars, are mandated to remain closed on April 13 and 14. Excise Commissioner General M.B.N.A. Pemarathna confirmed this directive, which has government approval. Deputy Excise Commissioner Roshan Perera also emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against any license holders found violating these regulations by selling alcohol during the holiday period.
