Sri Lanka Railways Bans Social Media During Duty, Cites Safety Concerns

The Sri Lanka Railway Department has issued a special circular prohibiting employees from using social media during duty hours and from disclosing sensitive operational information. This directive, issued under the General Manager of Railway, follows observations of staff members posting details about railway operations, including live videos, on platforms like Facebook and TikTok. The department warned that such disclosures could seriously undermine the credibility of the railway service, passenger safety, and institutional discipline. Strict legal action is threatened against any officials or employees found to be violating the new regulations.
