The Sri Lanka Post Department has appointed 192 acting Deputy Postmasters to permanent, pensionable positions today (18th) at the Colombo Main Post Office Headquarters. Presided over by Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa, the move aims to strengthen human resources and enhance the efficiency of postal and financial services in rural and remote areas. These officials have been serving in an acting capacity since approximately 2019. In a related development, the government has also approved an increase in the Deputy Post Office building allowance from Rs 1500 to Rs 7500, effective April 2025. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the quality of service delivery across the island.

The 192 permanent appointments for acting Sub-Postmasters, who had been serving for a prolonged period, have been confirmed. This announcement was made by Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, who also stated that 1,955 individuals have been recruited to the Sri Lanka Postal Service over the past 18 months. An additional 303 Postal Service officers are scheduled for recruitment on July 1, bringing the total new recruitment to 2,258.
