Sri Lanka Police Team Heads to Australia for Airbus Bribery Probe

A special joint police team, comprising officials from Sri Lanka's Bribery Commission and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), is scheduled to travel to Australia. The mission aims to investigate an alleged bribery incident involving USD 2 million connected to the 2013 purchase of aircraft for SriLankan Airlines from a European company. Investigators will seek to record statements and gather evidence from suspects and witnesses residing in Australia. This includes individuals believed to be linked to bank accounts through which the bribe money was allegedly transferred. The investigation is reportedly proceeding after the Bribery Commission informed the court about individuals residing in Australia, such as Nimal Perera, linked to relevant bank accounts.
