Sri Lanka Police Marks 160 Years of Service with Island-Wide Celebrations

The Sri Lanka Police is commemorating its 160th anniversary today, September 3, 2026. Established on September 3, 1866, during the British colonial era, the institution marks 160 years of service in safeguarding law and order. The main ceremony is being held at the Thimbirigasyaya Field Force Headquarters, with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake attending. Inspector General of Police Priyantha Wijesuriya is overseeing a series of island-wide programs, including special exhibitions and various public engagement activities. These events aim to strengthen public awareness and foster closer community ties.
