The Sri Lanka Police are implementing a special island-wide security program throughout Vesak week to ensure devotees can observe religious practices peacefully and securely. The initiative aims to manage expected large crowds at temples and sacred sites, as well as facilitate various Vesak activities like lantern displays and 'Bhakthi Gee' programs. Police have been instructed to take measures to minimize traffic congestion, particularly around religious locations. Increased mobile patrols will also be deployed to maintain public safety during the observance of Vesak Full Moon Poya Day on May 30, 2026.

Sri Lanka Police are taking stern action against dangerous and drunk driving during Vesak Week, with additional police officers deployed across divisions for intensified enforcement until the end of the week. This intensified enforcement comes as a sharp spike in road accidents during the Vesak holiday period has been reported, with 24 fatalities resulting from 19 road accidents over just two Vesak days. The period also saw 26 serious accidents and 96 minor accidents.

Sri Lanka Police have implemented a special traffic management plan for the Dambulla Vesak Zone, which commenced on May 27th. The plan, active daily from 3:00 PM to midnight until June 2nd, aims to manage congestion caused by large crowds. Specific alternative routes have been designated for vehicles traveling to and from various directions, including details for traffic between Anuradhapura/Habarana and Kandy/Matale.

A special security and traffic plan has been implemented for the Sirasa Namami Vesak Zone at the Rangiri Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya. As of 3:00 PM on May 31st, vehicular movement towards Kandy along the road opposite the temple has been restricted, with drivers advised to use alternative routes.
